Anne Hathaway had to hand over the jewelry given to her by ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri as he finalized his plea deal with prosecutors, the New York Post reported.The actress’ representatives delivered a dozen expensive gifts from Follieri to FBI agents in Los Angeles last month after authorities informed her they were seeking to recover his assets, sources familiar with the negotiations told the Post.
Hathaway gave up two Rolex watches and a collection of rings, necklaces and bracelets, the Post reports.
Follieri, a smooth-talking Italian businessman who claimed to have friends in high places at the Vatican, is headed to prison after pleading guilty last Wednesday in a Manhattan real estate fraud case.Follieri agreed not to appeal any sentence of up to five years and three months in prison for his plea to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. Sentencing was set for Oct. 3.
Prosecutors have said the 30-year-old Follieri posed as the Vatican’s representative to the U.S., telling investors that the Roman Catholic church would sell him property at a steep discount.
