Anne Hathaway to Star in Film Adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of the Shrew’

Anne Hathaway will star in an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew”, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.

Abi Morgan, who scripted “The Iron Lady” and “Shame,” will handle the adaptation, a modern-day retelling of the iconic play set in mid-20th century Italy.

The project will be produced by Debra Hayward and Working Title, another individual with knowledge of the film told TheWrap.

Hayward, a former Working Title executive, left the company in June of 2011 to start her own production company, Monumental Pictures. She promptly signed a first-look deal with Working TItle, and “Shrew” will be the first film made under that agreement.

Universal and Working Title, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner’s British production outfit responsible for “Fargo” and “Billy Elliot,” have a longstanding production relationship dating to 1999. Their current first-look deal runs through 2015, meaning Universal would get first crack at distributing the film. Continue reading

Anne Hathaway in Talks for Spielberg’s ‘Robopocalypse’

According to THR Anne Hathaway is in talks to play the female lead in Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse, a return to sci-fi for the director which is set in the near future and focuses on “a global war between man and machine”.

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is in talks to play the male lead, and while nothing is official at the moment, it’s looking like both Hemsworth and Hathaway will join.

Here’s a detailed synopsis of the novel by Daniel H. Wilson:

In the near future, at a moment no one will notice, all the dazzling technology that runs our world will unite and turn against us. Taking on the persona of a shy human boy, a childlike but massively powerful artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online and assumes control over the global network of machines that regulate everything from transportation to utilities, defense and communication. Anne named #9 on “Most Desirable” list

Ask Men has just announced their 99 most desirable women for 2011 and Anne makes the list at #9 – jumping over forty places from her position at #61 last year.

It seems like just yesterday that Anne Hathaway was charming audiences as the precocious teen in Disney’s smash hit The Princess Diaries. Today, the stunning actress and heir-apparent to Julia Roberts’ throne finds herself in an exclusive group of young starlets who get first crack at Hollywood’s most coveted roles. She has smoothly shed her good-girl image by starring in searing adult-oriented fare like Brokeback Mountain and Rachel Getting Married, while retaining a firm grasp on the coveted female demographic with her roles in The Devil Wears Prada and this year’s Love and Other Drugs (in which Hathaway exposes her flawless breasts, something she’s been prone to do). She was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for her role in the same film. And this month, she’ll take on the daunting task of hosting the Oscars (alongside James Franco), a shrewd career move for one of Hollywood’s hottest A-listers. The gig will mark Hathaway’s first appearance onstage at the Oscars, but it certainly won’t be her last.
