Anne’s Co Star, Emily talks about her

Emily Blunt recently discussed her Devil Wears Prada costar, Anne Hathaway, and how she’s moving on from recent personal trials.

“She puts pressure on herself, but I think she’s at a point where she can breathe and discover her whole bag of tricks,” Blunt told W magazine. “She has this newfound sense of confidence, and as her friend, that’s very exciting to see.”

Blunt added that the process of filming Rachel Getting Married, which Hathaway was in Toronto promoting at the International Film Festival, also aided in helping the actress get to where she is now.

TIFF: Anne Hathaway relishes substance abuser role

Tell Anne Hathaway and Jonathan Demme the central character in their new film is as much fun as “a colonoscopy without anesthetic,” and their faces ignite with pride.

It’s an odd reaction, especially given the often fragile egos that come designer bubble-wrapped to the Toronto International Film Festival, but it was entirely sincere: Discomfort was what they were after in Rachel Getting Married. Continue reading

Jodie Foster, Anne Hathaway to guest on ‘The Simpsons’

The first time Maggie spoke, it was just one word (“Daddy”), and Elizabeth Taylor did the honors. This time, Maggie is saying a bunch of words, and another film icon has lent her pipes to the cause: Jodie Foster (pictured, left). In an episode of The Simpsons slated to air in early 2009, she voices an adult version of Maggie. (The episode, “Four Great Women & A Manicure,” reimagines the worlds of Macbeth, The Fountainhead, Citizen Kane, and Queen Elizabeth I, with Springfield residents in key roles.)

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway will grace a different early-2009 installment, “The Good, the Sad and the Drugly.” She plays a sweet, charitable girl whom Bart falls for — so hard, in fact, that he becomes a good Samaritan to win her affection. When she discovers the truth about Bart, though, she breaks up with him and he reverts to his devious ways. The Simpsons returns to Fox for season 20 on Sept. 28.

Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne Johnson Reveal How They Got Tough To ‘Get Smart’

Carell says they made ‘a real spy movie with real villains’ — and that meant real stunts for the stars.

“Get Smart” is a spy spoof in the “Austin Powers” tradition, made to cash in on the overnight fame of Steve Carell. Co-stars Anne Hathaway and Dwayne Johnson enjoyed cracking jokes and then heading back to their trailers as professional stuntmen acted out their action scenes. It’s a big, dumb, traditional summer blockbuster, filled to the brim with fart jokes.

And if you believe any of that, well, you’ve missed it by that much.

“I had just done ‘Anchorman,’ ” Carell recalled of landing the role of Maxwell Smart, which raised eyebrows back in 2005, before “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “The Office” had made him a household name. “I went to this thinking it was an audition. I didn’t think they were offering me a role.” Continue reading

Hathaway’s Dream Role

Actress Anne Hathaway was desperate to land a role in the big-screen remake of Get Smart – because she pretended to be in the TV show as a youngster.

The Devil Wears Prada star’s dream came true when she was cast as Agent 99 in the 2008 film adaptation of the 1970s series, after years of acting out the part during her childhood.

She says, “I was a huge fan of Get Smart when I was a kid.

“I used to stay up late to watch the reruns and then spend the next day pretending to be Agent 99.”
