Anne Hathaway’s joy over Oscar nod

Anne Hathaway’s dog was left nonplussed by its owner’s Oscar nomination.
The actress was at home with her pooch when she learnt she had been shortlisted for a coveted gong.

As she and her parents celebrated, her dog looked on bemused, she told entertainment website HollyScoop.com

She said: “I was with my parents and my dog when I got the news and we were all overjoyed – although I’m not sure my dog knew what was going on.”

Anne has been nominated in the actress in a leading role category for her role in Rachel Getting Married.

She is up against Angelina Jolie, Melissa Leo, Meryl Streep, and Golden Globe winner Kate Winslet.

Anne said: “It is such a thrill to be recognised in this category with these remarkably talented women.

“This is a great day to be an actress.”

It is the first time that the 26-year-old actress has been nominated for an Academy Award.

Jonathan Demme’s indie hit with Anne Hathaway

Jonathan Demme has been making films — some of the smartest and funkiest in modern cinema — for 35 years now. He has navigated a circuitous path through celebratory slice-of-life drama such as Melvin and Howard, the screwball thrillers Something Wild and Married to the Mob, concert movies such as Stop Making Sense, the prestigious Oscar-winners The Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia, and documentaries. If his next project is a western or something in 3-D, he’ll have the full house.

Has all this experience resulted in a magic formula? When we meet in a hotel suite high above the drizzly London streets, I ask Demme if he would like to add anything to his declaration, in the late 1980s, that the secret to making a decent movie is: “You get a good script, good actors, and try not to screw it up.” He lets out a joyful laugh — the first of many from this genial 64-year-old with short, bristly grey hair and a dusting of stubble — and gives an exaggerated slap of the thigh. “That’s the formula, baby!” he whoops. Golden Globe : Golden Globe apologises for Anne Hathaway’s ‘award’ blunder

Golden Globe organisers have issued an apology for mistakenly stating Anne Hathaway as the winner of the Best Actress category on its website.

An asterisk had appeared to the star’s name in the list of nominees – even though the award ceremony was to take place on January 11.

According to the statement on the website, the actress, who is nominated for ‘Rachel Getting Married’, had been “randomly marked as a winner” by accident, reports the BBC.

The statement said: “In the process of preparing for Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards, a technician working on the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) website made a mistake and a name of a nominee was randomly marked as a winner.
